29th May 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

29th May, 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Ken Hewitt fished Ackers Pit last Wednesday choosing the first peg through access gate for his session only to discover that the previous angler had tipped a pile of dead maggots in the middle of the peg probably thinking that birds would eat them. Unused bait should always be taken home and not dumped either on the bank or in the fishery. Anyway, with the water a nice colour, the sun shining, and carp cruising the surface it really looked idyllic. Ken ended up with twelve roach and perch plus a tench between 2lb and 2.5lb that took a single white maggot just outside the reeds about 4ft from the bank.

Tom Fahay introduced his son Alfie aged four to our wonderful sport of angling at Ackers pit on the Monday Bank Holiday this week. Tom had kitted him out with a small whip and using punched bread on the hook Alfie soon caught his first ever fish, a roach, that he will remember for always. Alfie ended up with ten roach and rudd, and he only fished for an hour. Well done Alfie.

The fish are spawning at many of our fisheries this week so as usual in the interests of fish welfare wherever this is happening the pegs will be closed to angling. However, we always try to keep open other pegs but on no account should anglers fish areas where there are spawning fish whether a peg is closed or not.

Members at Appleton Reservoir please note that under no circumstances must they park anywhere but on our locked carpark, there will be no excuses. Fishing has always been allowed from below the wall but it is definitely not acceptable to bring any fish up to the top of the wall for catch photographs. If a fish was dropped the consequences more than likely would be serious.

This week our Monday Disabled & Over 60's match was fished on our popular and picturesque Woodshaw Reservoir that is maintained by our dedicated team of volunteers. Newcomer to this series Ray Boden fished his favourite pole method and clocked up a win in only his second match with a weight of 7-7-0 made up of roach, skimmers, and crucians. Second placed George Hollis was agonisingly only an ounce behind with 7-6-0. Twenty anglers fished.

Your catch reports are always welcome, but more important, it is nice to let follow members know how waters are fishing. Please email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for 2018 night permits/membership renewals, new members, subscriptions, and any queries.
