22nd May, 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
Josh Roberts or JR to his mates was the only angler at our Wide Hole fishery at Higher Poynton where fishing a waggler and loose feeding maggot he hit the jackpot. Single maggot on a size 20 brought a roach on his first cast and he never stopped catching and even had to wind in to have his butties. Fed and watered he cast in again, the float went under and this time he struck into a bigger fish but he watched the bream slowly sink out of sight at the net as it slipped the hook. Upping his hook-size to a 14's saw him land nine bream around the 2 to 2.5 mark.
Dave Lamb spent a two-hour evening session on Friday fishing on ackers pit and in that time caught six roach that were around 8oz each and a tench around the 3lb mark. All the fish were caught on expander pellets at a peg where the ducks are fed regularly with bread which inevitably attracts the fish.
A report that anglers fishing at our High Legh Fisheries on Tuesday were catching a carp or two along with crucians and roach. One angler had three carp within an hour of setting up! Good news is that the place is absolutely teeming with fry.
Please note that our bailiffs will in the interests of fish welfare close pegs where fish are actively spawning, but, in any case, anglers should always avoid such areas despite them not being signed to that effect.
This week our Monday at our Disabled & Over 60's match was fished on the Bridgewater Canal at Stage Lane where Geoff Brooks made the most of an end peg draw despite the fact that he was fishing across to a boat where the owners were working and watching his float with interest. There is not a shred of truth in the rumour that they were telling him when to strike! Geoff just kept ahead of the pack with 3-7-4 which included mainly roach and two small skimmer bream. He fished the pole and kicked off with a ball of ground-bait laced with feeders and double pinkie on the hook, alternating with red maggot. George Hollis was in second place with 3-7-0 and included a decent bream in his net of roach. Twenty anglers fished and it was nice to see veteran angler Alf Seddon turn out after an absence
Your catch reports are always welcome, but more important, it is nice to let follow members know how waters are fishing. Please email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.
