8th May, 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Eric Smith made the most of the Bank Holiday and Monday afternoon saw him visit his favourite Cicely Mill Pool for a few hours. When he arrived, Eric was greeted by a lake full of spawning Carp! This being the earliest he has ever known Carp to spawn, his first instinct was that it would be the bream that were spawning and watched them for an hour or so before setting up. Eric set up well away from the activities and managed to land seven bream all around the 3lb mark that fell to a wafter fished in conjunction with a method feeder. The strange thing was, given that the carp were spawning none of the bream appeared to be ready to spawn and not sporting any nodules nor showing the usual signs of having done so.

Lucas Procek took some time off from clearing pegs at Phoenix Park Lake foe a well deserved fishing session. He only managed a couple of hours but was well rewarded with three tench weighing 7lbs, 4lbs, and 3lbs all in excellent condition and fought well. Used both method and cage feeders with meat on the hook over a bed of hemp.

Anthony Rough fished a short morning session on Sunday at our Offa's Dyke Fisheries. He fished wager and maggot at dead depth with two number 10 shot on the line. He had a fish on the first cast, and did not stop catching, most of the fish taking the bait on the drop. Anthony ended with 116 fish mostly roach, and rudd, plus the odd skimmer. His only problem all morning was catapulting his maggots in before his float went under. This is an ideal fishery for introducing newcomers to angling bearing in mind that this is one of our designated fisheries where any senior member can take a youngster 12 years and under for free.

This week our Monday at our Disabled & Over 60's match was fished on our Woodshaw Reservoir Fishery. Weights were made up of mainly crucians, skimmers, and roach and the warmer weather definitely put the fish in a feeding mood as winner Alan Birchwood weighed in 19-10-0 taken on pole and red maggot fished up in the water. Second placed Graham Belton caught the same mix of fish but fed small pellet as an attractor with red maggot on the hook for 16-0-0.

Your catch reports are always welcome, but more important, it is nice to let follow members know how waters are fishing. Please email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.
