5th June, 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
A late report from Philip Brown who fished the big lake last Monday targeting the big tench that this water holds. On his tench gear feeding sweetcorn and using it on the hook he missed out on the tincas but ended his session with two mirror carp at 17 and 24lbs. Our bailiff Andrew Hewson reports that good numbers of carp are coming out of Small Sandiway, he caught four and lost one on pineapple pop-up boilies plus two bream. Reports of large tench being caught on Big Sandiway.
Mike Pritchard on his first trip out following a shoulder operation headed for one of his favourite venues, Ackers Pit. Now I know some members who are targeting the carp are struggling but the fish will no doubt have only recently spawned. Anyway, Mike was after anything that swims and fishing a light waggler and feeding caster over hemp he had a good 10lbs of fish made up of a solitary rudd, a skimmer (yes they are in there coming in as fry from the Bridgewater via the supply brook), a hybrid, and the rest were roach with the exception of a terrapin. A couple of the roach were around 12oz to 1lb.
This week our Monday Disabled & Over 60's match was fished on the Bridgewater Canal at Hilltop and although weights were generally low the winner by a clear margin was John Dagnall. He caught three bream that added nicely to his 14oz of roach and perch for a total weight of 6-14-0. Lennie Dutton was in second place with an all roach catch for 1-14-0.
Snippets:- Fish are still spawning on some waters so please respect the swim closures in the interests of fish welfare. A swan managed to get tangled in an angler's line on Sandiway and if that wasn't bad enough this anonymous member never thought to report it either to our bailiffs or myself so we could effect a rescue. Still on the same water members should be aware that there are no public footpaths around the perimeter of the lake. This is members land so you are quite within your rights to tell people they are trespassing. If they cause any trouble call the police and log the incident number for our records.
Your catch reports are always welcome, but more important, it is nice to let follow members know how waters are fishing. Please email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.
WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for 2018 night permits/membership renewals, new members, subscriptions, and any queries.
