1st May 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

1st May, 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

There have been reports of some good tench catches plus carp from Grey Mist Mere and Sandiway Lakes although as regards the carp there is the usual secrecy. It was refreshing this past week to see a number of members breaking that trend and posting their catches on our Facebook page for the benefit of fellow members. I think what a lot of carp anglers lose site of is that the money to fund annual stocking comes from both existing and those future anglers who are attracted to our club because of the known fishing on offer; definitely secrecy doesn't fit the bill where this is concerned.

I have not received a report from Ackers Pit for some time so I was more than happy when Jason Rowson reported an afternoon session. He was fishing waggler and maggot with a few pellets for added attraction but had nothing for the first hour until the float dipped and he promptly lost a decent fish. The same thing happened again so he re-tackled with another reel and 6lbs line and soon had his first carp in the net weighing around the 7 or 8lbs mark. He ended his session with a further 6 fish, no specimens and all of the same stamp plus 4 plump roach.

A late report from longstanding member Stephen Brookes when a fortnight ago he fished on the Trent & Mersey Canal to the right of the Billinge wide where the new marina is being built. He saw a number of fish in distress and swimming on the surface trying to get oxygen. As you might guess he did not have a bite. Being aware of the pollution incident there earlier in the year he immediately reported it. Better news is that along with other anglers they fished to the left of that wide the following weekend and all caught between 5 and 6 lb of small fish so it's not all doom and gloom.  Also Stephen has been making regular pleasure trips to the T&M at Croxton Lane, Middlewich where other anglers are a rare site but catches of 5lbs in a few  hours are to be had, mainly roach, small skimmers, hybrids, and gudgeon.

This week our Monday at our Disabled & Over 60's match was fished on the Trent & Mersey Canal at School Road. Weights were made up of mainly gudgeon and small roach plus the odd skimmer which suited veteran matchman Jimmy Byrne who put a winning weight of 3-9-0 on the scales. He was followed by Vice President Geoff Brooks with 3-3-4.

Your catch reports are always welcome, but more important, it is nice to let follow members know how waters are fishing. Please email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for 2018 night permits/membership renewals, new members, subscriptions, and any queries.
