26th February 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

26th February 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Gary Myerscough enjoyed a short afternoon session on the Association owned stretch of the River Ribble at Hurst Green this week and reckons that the walk is definitely worthwhile. Faced with a low and clear river he set his stall out for chub and ended up with half a dozen fish 2.5 to 3.5lbs. He fully expected that his first rod set up with a feeder packed with mashed bread and flake on the hook would do the business but all the fish fell to his second rod on which he used a simple maggot feeder rig. He fully intended to set up both on the bread so it just shows that it often pays to ring the changes.

The less said the better about our winter league event on Saturday at Agden when the individual winner Ross Wightman needed only two small perch weighing just over 2ozs! Only two weeks ago Ross won this series with over 14lbs. Teams on the day saw Cheshire Gold with 16 points followed by Black Claggers on 11. Bob's Lot who have been having some cracking results were left propping up all the teams. Cheshire Gold are still leading the field on 130 points with Saints trailing by ten.

Our Disabled & Over 60's match was an entirely different affair which saw veteran Ron Durr take the winners purse with a fine net of  roach and skimmers for 7-15-12. I have no idea what medication Geoff Brooks is on but following last weeks return from his sick bed to a spectacular win he has been at it again this week to take the runner-up spot with 6-7-0 taken on the pole at 12metres and alternating between bread punch and caster.  Rumour has it that organiser John Dagnall scrounged a few of his magic pills because he was in the money again in third position with 3-13-10.

I am asking for member's pictures of carp caught from WAA fisheries to use on the WAA stand at the Northern Angling Show. It takes place on the 23rd and 24th March and I really need to get our display sorted soon. Any format, photograph, disc, memory stick, or email will be fine. All will be returned safely.

Don't forget your catch reports are invaluable to this column and fellow members. Either ring me on 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ 52, Parker Street is open as usual between 7 & 9-00pm on Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
