5th February 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

The Saturday match fished at Moore Boats threw up some respectable weights with Jimmy Byrne taking the win with a 7-3-0 mixed bag. Ross Wightman was second with 6-11-0. On Sunday it was fished near the Barn Owl at Agden and saw winner Phil Cross put 8-3-0 on the scales followed by Kev Green on 7-13-0.

Our Disabled & Over 60's match on Monday was fished either side of Houghs Bridge and saw Jimmy Byrne notch up another win with an impressive 11-11-0 which comprised of eighty roach and skimmers taken on pole fished caster and bread. Ray Bowden was runner up with a small fish catch for 4-9-12. I am told that George Barber would have been in the frame but I understand that he was breaking in some new glasses.

David Crosthwaite snatched a couple of hours fishing at Appleton Reservoir on Thursday morning taking advantage of the blue sky but still cold conditions. Setting up a light quiver tip rod he used plastic maggot on a short helicopter rig. He had couple of roach to 1.5lbs, a common carp of 11lbs that was closely followed by a small mirror of 9lbs. More reports on this fishery from members would be very welcome.

I hear that at last a few carp have been caught from Grey Mist Mere this past weekend so hopefully they may get their heads down for a while. They were mainly stock fish that look to be doing really well and I believe one of the old warriors also made an appearance.

Our bailiffs team at Wigan report that Woodshaw Reservoir is fishing well with plenty of roach, chub and a few crucian being caught, the latter averaging 2.5lbs. Maggot accounting for most catches using either pole or tip methods.

Well the Mersey Series was actually fished on Sunday but the conditions couldn't have been any worse as the level was down two feet and the flow was almost non-existent. Needless to say bites were to put it mildly slow but Ant Higham managed a few perch and roach for 1-5-9 for a win, followed by the other half of the duo Paul Harding on 1-3-4. To those members asking the whereabouts of the 'cully mines' as mentioned in last weeks column they are opposite the 'black forest' and were accessed from Bennett's fields via the feeder bridge.

Don't forget your catch reports are invaluable to this column and fellow members. Either ring me on 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ 52, Parker Street is open as usual between 7 & 9-00pm on Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
