9th August 2011 Warrington Guardian Notes

9th August 2011 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Some of the pegs at Cicily Mill Pool have been closed for major repair  and as we rely on member volunteers if you want to speed up the process and would like to help please give me a ring on 01928 716238. On my visit last weekend I caught up with an old acquaintance, Paul Burton who at that time had caught 40 crucians, a tench, and lost a big carp. Paul was fishing pole and soft pellet. Carp were obviously feeding as one member reported four and another, a common of 18.5lbs plus some quality tench.

The pensioners match at Woodshaw Reservoir was won this week by Trevor Gray who had a right old battle with a pike hooked on light pole tackle. As he drew it over his landing net it was half hanging out so he lay down his top three to use both hands on the job that was when the feisty predator made its bid for freedom making off with his pole sections in tow, but Trevor was quicker and jumped in managing to grab them in the nick of time. Finally landing the pike it weighed 10-10-0 giving a well deserved boost to his winning weight of 18-12-0.

The River Mersey England Ladies Fundraiser Open saw the river in excellent form with their new team manager, Dave Brooks putting in a cracking performance on the pole to take top spot with 16lbs. Runner-up was our National Squad member, Ross Wightman with 14-3-0. Thanks to all who supported the event which raised £112 for the Ladies England International Squad.

Ackers Pit is still producing good sport with roach, rudd, and carp, caught mainly on maggot or caster. A few tench are showing that are slowly increasing in size but the crucian carp that we stocked are proving illusive. Although pole seems to be the preferred method a number of anglers have been getting amongst the carp fishing a waggler line of around four and five rod lengths.

At Adlington Reservoir which is part of our Worthington three lake complex an area of banking has now been fenced off and made a 'no go' area for anglers due to some idiot digging into the dam wall to accommodate his bivvy. Words fail me, but if any member can put a name to this person please let me know because he has lost decent members some of their fishing.

Pickering Bridge car park will be closed to all vehicles from Monday 15th August for the week to allow necessary tree clearance work adjacent to the high voltage power cables.

Please keep sending me your catch reports either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 9pm on Friday, for 2011 subscriptions, new memberships, and any queries.
