16th August 2011 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.
Our pairs match fished last Sunday where one angler is drawn on the River Mersey and his partner the Bridgewater Canal saw England Ladies manager Dave Brooks on a roll with yet another river win. He put 12-12-0 of pole fished roach and perch on the scales whilst his partner and WAA committee member Graham Belton drawn on the canal came second with 8-11-0 of skimmers and roach caught on pole and caster to give them an almost perfect winning combined score of 3 points.
Our junior/intermediate rod only match on the Mersey fished well when you consider the youngsters only fished for just over an hour and a half before 'bad light stopped play'. Ryan Brown won the juniors with 2-9-0 of roach and perch on the waggler whilst intermediate winner Jon Andrews fished a similar method for 2-11-6.
Barry Chambers and his son Luke had a good session at Ackers Pit, fishing the pole and loose feeding maggots they caught crucians and small tench steadily. Phil Gardner reports a mixed catch of roach, rudd, and three carp on light waggler tactics. He also used maggot as bait, regularly firing half a dozen around his float to keep the fish in his swim.
Please would the person (described as Irish and called John) who kindly took a photograph of a youngster with a 5lbs carp at Ackers Pit several weeks ago please contact me as it is his biggest fish to date and his grandmother has asked me to track down a copy of the picture.
Despite rumours of large carp being caught from Sandiway Lakes and according to some the best year ever at this venue, actual reports are thin on the ground. It would be handy if the committee had some indication that their stocking policy is working or not to enable them to assess future requirements.
The Cheshire Angling Development Group Junior Team Championships held at Border Fishery last Wednesday saw Penketh & Old Hall and Warrington AA taking both junior and intermediate team honours respectively. Runners up were Northwich AA and Prince Albert AS.
Our lock has again been removed, presumably stolen from the entrance track to the River Weaver at Frodsham; we will fit another as soon as possible. As a matter of interest I would like to hear some catch reports from members who have fished the river below the weir.
Please keep sending me your catch reports either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 9pm on Friday, for 2011 subscriptions, new memberships, and any queries.
