2nd August 2011 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.
Ackers Pit is really fishing well with members reporting good sessions with quality roach and rudd plus the occasional tench and carp, although the latter with normally voracious appetites have been just cruising the surface the past few days. Bailiff Mike Monks weighed one carp this past weekend at 4.5lbs so they are piling on weight, although our intention with a slight overstock was to keep their weights low. Nevertheless at this size they are more or less cormorant proof. According to anglers I spoke to on Tuesday pole and caster is the most productive method.
Some decent sized bream are being caught from Rixton Claypits with many around the 4 to 5lbs mark plus hybrids in the 2 to 2.5lbs range. Mike Acaster 'escaped' from his work for the afternoon and using a small groundbait feeder with pellet smothered with home-made paste on the hook had some quality bream with the best 7-8-0 plus a few tench, whilst his mate Tony Bolesworth who was also AWOL tried catching on pellet but after a slow start switched to float fished red maggot and corn for a good catch of roach, rudd, and skimmers to 1lb.
I called up at Woodshaw Reservoir last week and was pleased by the reports from a new member who had just returned to our sport and had been previously hitting the day ticket fisheries. He thought the price of his joining WAA was worth every penny for this one water alone where in a few visits he had caught quality crucians, bream, tench, and carp. I pointed out that there were other fisheries in the area equally as good and managed by our same team of volunteers.
Many thanks to member George Hollis who on Sunday was on the ball in promptly reporting leakage into the Trent & Mersey Canal from an overhead pipe at Billinge Green to both the Environment Agency and ourselves. His course of action was text book stuff and what every member coming across a potential pollution should follow. Thankfully the outcome was that it was water and nothing nasty.
We have had a few situations of members taking non-members to some of our private fisheries and even setting up tents; neither are allowed according to our rules and from our experience only cause problems with other members and landowners. So if you wish to take someone with you where there is no public access please ensure that they are a member then you are bomb-proof, but the tents are a definite no no.
Please keep sending me your catch reports either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 9pm on Friday, for 2011 subscriptions, new memberships, and any queries.
