18th Jan 2011. WAA Weekly Report

Neil Buist topped the match weights this week with an impressive win in our Warrington Local Winter League event on the Bridgewater Canal at Statham. Fishing for Cheshire Angling he put 16-8-0 on the scales consisting of twenty skimmers and forty roach, a good days sport by any standards. He was almost 11lbs clear of second placed Bob Campbell on 5-8-4. Bread punch and caster accounted for most catches. The team league table to date shows Cheshire Angling and Warrington Red tying on 76 points.
Our Sunday practice event for the spring league on the Trent & Mersey Canal saw Tony Derbyshire take the top honours with a cracking roach net of 11-7-0 followed in second place by Ross Wightman on 9-15-0. The top five anglers had a collective catch of over 47lbs.
The Disabled and over 60's event back after an enforced break saw regular, John Sharp take the top spot with 4-1-8 of small roach. The weights then dropped somewhat to George Barber on 2-12-8 but without doubt this group of hardy anglers enjoy the craic as much as the fishing.
Woodshaw Reservoir is producing good catches of chub and roach but no other fish are feeding. They are being caught using a small maggot feeder.
Our website has now been speeded up and re-vamped with new members now able to join on line using Paypal. Our Webmaster Martin James is looking for pictures of our fisheries and your catch shots to use on our gallery. Pictures mean prizes so get sending and net yourself a prize.
Our volunteers are out this weekend at both Grey Mist Mere and Ackers Pit where work carries on whatever the weather. At the Mist pegs and pathways are ongoing in this volunteer led project to improve your fishery. At Ackers Pit the present project is habitat improvement and marginal planting. If you fancy helping please give me a ring.
Please keep sending in your catch reports whatever they are, good, bad, or indifferent, as they are invaluable. Contact me either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.
HQ Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 8.30pm on Friday, for 2011 night permits and new memberships. The latter can still also be purchased from Baileys Tackle, Cheshire Angling, and Challinors Sports in Warrington or at our other depots as listed on our website, or online at www.warrington-anglers.org.uk.
