9th March 2010 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Last week one of our new members caught his first carp of the season giving other anglers present a rare glimpse of the Grey Mist 'thirty' that weighed in at 30-8-0. It was indeed a nice surprise as the vast majority of fish lie dormant in the icy water.

After a number of delays the long awaited carp for Grey Mist Mere and Sandiway Lakes are to be stocked on Thursday. So hopefully by the time you read this they will be swimming free in their new homes and stir up the resident to feed.

Our Saturday local winter league results saw low weights on all sections and Lee Clarke fishing for Black Claggers only needed 2-6-10 for an individual win followed closely by Warrington Red star Alan Faulkner with 2-5-0. With only one match to go Cheshire Angling Gold on 173 are hot favourites with a 22 point lead over Warrington Red on 151.

Our Spring League was fished on the Trent & Mersey Canal which produced some cracking winter weights of roach led by Ross Whiteman fishing bread and caster. He put 8-12-0 on the scales followed closely by Craig Richie on 8-9-8 whose slip with an illusive perch which missed his net cost him dearly.

The popular Disabled and over 60's match was won by Dave Blease who just broke the pound barrier with 1-3-10 followed by Lenny Dutton on 11-8. Match organiser John Dagnall had an absolute grueller adding another dry net to his credit. However better times were just around the corner when on the Sunday Mersey event he managed 3rd place with a life saving dace!

Don't forget to save your Sainsbury's Active Kids vouchers as we can use them towards tackle for our junior anglers.

Please continue sending in your catch reports as they are valuable to both your fellow members and your committee. Contact me either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street is open as usual on Friday evening between 7 & 9pm for subscriptions, night permits, and new memberships (these can also be purchased from any of our tackle shop outlets listed on our website www.warrington-anglers.org.uk )
