2nd March 2010 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Jeff Mowbray reports having caught his first carp of the year from Cicily Mill Pool. The fish was a common and in excellent condition weighing in at 17lbs. Jeff now has his sights firmly set on our famous 33lbs Cicily common which always makes a small number of appearances each year. The fish was photographed, weighed and witnessed by two members and the committee has awarded Jeff a Korda carp care kit for submitting his pictures.

One minute I have a member giving me grief that the canal contains no silver fish and only two days later match stalwart Lennie Dutton in our Disabled & Over 60's event puts a winning net of skimmers for 7-13-5 on the scales. George Barber was runner up with a skimmer and roach catch weighing 4-10-2. I understand there were quite a number of 1.5lbs weights and these guys are not complaining especially after the worst winter freeze up for years. Caster accounted for some plump roach for match organizer John Dagnall who had just got the fish feeding in the last hour when several tangled rigs ruined his chances.

Many thanks to the several members rang me on Tuesday alerting me to the fact that the Environment Agency Flood Defense had started some bank works on our stretch of the River Wyre at Churchtown. Alarm bells started to ring immediately because we had not been informed. The upshot is that there is a small amount of urgent interim works now taking place which we will be watching closely. I have been assured that we will be included in the project consultation process.
