16th March 2010 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Nineteen anglers fished our River Mersey Haiti Charity Match on Sunday and despite the dire weights £155 was raised for the victims of the disaster. Jim Byrne managed to win again following on from last weeks large chub capture but with the lower weight of 1-13-8 (small chub and a hybrid). Jeff Stoll's single roach earned him second place with 7-11. Never mind lads it was all for a good cause.

Large perch featured in the winning weights on our Warrington Local Winter League final where bites were at a premium. Winner Jeff Stoll had just one perch for 2-3-4 followed by Mike Savage with one of 1-11-0, and even third placed Gary Wright weighed a stripy of 1-6-0 in his 1-9-0 catch. As I predicted last week Cheshire Angling Gold won the coveted team event 24 points clear of runners up Warrington Red.

The Disabled & Over 60's match saw veteran George Barber take the honours with a nice net of roach weighing 7-7-3. He was closely followed by Ron Durr with a similar catch of 7-3-3. Match organiser John Dagnall caught more fish than he had all year managing fourth place with 3-10-4.

There were lots of 2lbs plus weights but the other end of the match struggled with just the odd perch.

As mentioned in last weeks column the long awaited mirror carp went into both Grey Mist Mere and Sandiway small lake. Those members who came along to help were not disappointed with the quality and scale variations. The five biggest in the Mist averaged over 14lbs plus fifteen around the 9lbs mark. Fifteen averaging just over 8.5lbs were stocked into Sandiway thanks to new members John Marzelos and Jon Goulding who just happened to be there and didn't mind getting slightly wet in the process.

In October we have some cracking roach and rudd lined up for both Grey Mist Mere and Ackers Pit by which time hopefully the marginal weed planting program at the latter will provide natural cover to an otherwise barren waters edge.

Please keep sending in your catch reports as they help both fellow members and your management committee in their continuous fishery evaluation. Tel. 01928 716238 FAX 01928713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street is open as usual on Friday evening between 7 & 9pm for subscriptions, new members, etc. Also new memberships can be purchased from any of our tackle shop outlets (see our website for your nearest).
