26th January 2010 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
Fishing continues to be patchy with anglers trying every method under the sun to get a bite. Such was the case for Lennie Dutton who won our regular Monday disabled & over 60's event with a large perch. Fishing a juicy dendrabena in the boat run the big predator was his only bite of the match and weighed in at 2-5-10. Runner up Bud Lee fished chopped worm for his mixed net of small roach and perch for 1-1-8.
Our Local Winter League individual honours on Saturday were taken by Geoff Stoll fishing for the Saracens Head team. The successful method was mainly pole and punch bread for an all roach catch of 3-6-6. Graham Stokes (Cheshire Angling) was runner up with a similar mixed net for 2lbs exactly. Chris Hill fishing for Assi which was the winning team on the day weighed in a perch just short of 1.5lbs.
With his regular Mersey event cancelled organiser Bob Campbell decided that a change was as good as a rest and booked on the Sunday T & M match. It was hard fishing but perseverance with pole fished bread punch resulted in a roach and tiny gudgeon net of 35 fish for 13-9 which was enough to beat regular Harry Morris who had 11oz into second place.
The River Dane saw plenty of anglers on its banks over the weekend but fish were few and far between with only the odd grayling being reported. Still it has to be an improvement from lounging in front of the television watching repeats.
Your thanks must go to our bailiffs and the working party clean-up organized by 'Friends of the Bridgewater Canal' on Saturday. They removed forty bags of rubbish the result of fly-tipping which included a door and bikes, etc from the banks at Sale. I am speechless.
Please keep sending in your catch reports as they help both fellow members and your management committee in their continuous fishery evaluation. Tel. 01928 716238 FAX 01928713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.
HQ Parker Street is open as usual on Friday evening between 7 & 9pm for subscriptions, new members, etc. Also new memberships can be purchased from any of our tackle shop outlets (see our website for your nearest).
