2nd February 2010 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

The January Catch of the Month competition was won by Chris Dyer with his new personal best pike a 16lb 2oz beauty from the river Mersey here at Warrington and winning him £100 worth of Bait Tech products and a Korda fish care kit.

It  proves that persistence pays because after a day of false starts and disasters involving spare clothes and waterlogged wellies he was rewarded with not just his winning entry but also a second double. Both pike were taken on whiting which Chris had saved from a previous sea fishing trip, despite some ribbing from his more experienced mates, decided the whiting were the way to go.

The river was running fast when the rod started knocking so thinking it was a bit of debris on the line he lifted it   up, gave a bit of line and felt the weight of a fish on the end, struck and after several close shaves with some snags in his peg got his first view of the lovely deep specimen. Shaking like a leaf he was able to net and weigh his new PB and first ever river pike.

There will be a rowing event on the Mersey at Warrington this Saturday 6th Feb it will not interfere with the fishing but  members should be aware there will some disturbance as it is a large organised competition.

The river Dee has been fishing very well recently according to Chester tackle shop owner Wendy Locker with plenty of roach to be caught and an exceptionally good run of sea trout with anglers reporting catching fifteen or more in a session.

Members fishing in the Daresbury area on the Bridgewater canal may see an unusual water discharge into the canal it is not expected to affect fishing and should not be anything other than clean uncontaminated water. It has been sanctioned via the MSC and EA however if there is any discolored water or other issues members come across please notify the EA and ourselves immediately.

We would like to get a clearer picture of what lies on the bottom of Grey Mist mere and have in the past had members and others offer their services to the club for just such an opportunity.

So if any suitably qualified and trained divers out there would be interested in carrying out this sort of investigation for the club please get in touch and maybe it can be to our mutually benefit.

The weather had not improved enough on Monday for the Disabled & Over 60's group to hold their weekly match on the Bridgewater canal. They were disappointed when match organiser John Dagnall unfortunately had to call it off due to there not being enough ice free pegs to accommodate them all.

Please keep sending in your catch reports as they help both fellow members and your management committee in their continuous fishery evaluation. Tel. 01928 716238 FAX 01928713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street is open as usual on Friday evening between 7 & 9pm for subscriptions, new members, etc. Also new memberships can be purchased from any of our tackle shop outlets (see our website for your nearest).
