19th January 2010 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

I can't believe that yet again I am writing about the weather but you have to admit it has pre-occupied most anglers' thoughts and completely prevented members from enjoying their sport on our canals and lakes. Well according to the experts it is more or less over and the ice is slowly melting.

It would be an understatement to say that the Trent and Mersey match on Sunday was hard as bites were undoubtedly few and far between with the exception of match winner Phil Matthews who found himself drawn on a shoal of hungry roach. Phil fished bread punch and caster to put 6-6-0 on the scales exactly doubling the weight of runner up Andy Caddick on 3-3-0. The large perch which sometimes make an appearance to boost winter weights failed to show.

The first local Stillwater to produce a result was the Bridgewater Canal on Monday when after a pre-match inspection by organiser John Dagnall he found enough ice free pegs to accommodate the weekly Disabled & Over 60's event. Well would you believe it another angler as is the custom drew John the boss peg and he absolutely battered the opposition with an all roach net taken on bread punch. He put 3-5-5 on the scales when most others did not get a bite with Harry Morris runner up on 11ozs.

The member who kindly left the two barriers open at Grey Mist Mere over the weekend will surely be pleased to know that his irresponsible and selfish action resulted in someone gaining access and stealing materials destined for peg and path construction. Trust me when I say that any person found leaving any of our barriers open will loose their membership immediately. Such security measures are after all installed to protect member's property and fishing rights,
