23rd September Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
I must apologise for the ones which don't get a mention but thanks to everyone. Please keep 'em coming even if you don't want them publicised!
Paul Harding was under pressure last week when his mission was to catch fifteen bream for Dr Markus Quack on a flying visit from the University of Trier in Germany. The sample was for his continuing research project to assess the bioavailability of the flame retardant HBCD in fish. Dr Quack takes samples from the Mersey and the River Tees each year. Paul did him proud this time when he caught thirty bream for him to choose from, the rest were returned to the river. Thanks to Paul and Bob Campbell who organised the pick up.
Another of our new members Terry Coulson visited the Ribble at Hurst Green and would have been glad of anyone's Mum to photograph his new PB pike! On his second cast the line went solid which at first made him think he had hooked the riverbed, he was soon disillusioned when it moved then tore off up the river. After a heart stopping fight a beautiful pike weighing in at whopping 26lb 4oz was in his net and beating his previous PB by 11lb. By balancing his mobile phone on some stones he managed to take a picture of himself and just the center section of the pike an insight into its size, but sadly not a good enough photo to enter into the Catch of the month competition but what a fish nonetheless.
Cicely mill is on good form Jeff Mowbray had a 20lb 6oz mirror on 12mm boilie and on a further visit sixteen cruciens and four tench. On Saturday Roy Leatherbarrow had a decent bag of bream to 4lb while other anglers present were catching tench to 3lb and odd roach and perch.
Statham pool is producing good mixed bags every day well worth a trip as are the `Wigan' pools.
The final match in the John Lavery Memorial series takes place next Tuesday the leader board is pretty close and the competition fierce. A new shield purchased by the club for the series Winner could go to any one of several members in contention. The £5,000 John generously left to the club to generate prize money for the Honorary & OAP matches has accumulated £156 interest since it was donated in 2007 which will be paid out in prizes.
HQ Parker Street will be open as usual on Friday evening between 7 & 9-30pm for subscriptions, new members, etc.
