29th May 2023 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Neil Plunkettt with Neil Buck enjoyed a nice day's fishing at Woodshaw Reservoir last week following helpful advice from one of our local bailiff team they went from small silvers to crucians catching thirteen between them, some to well over 2lbs.

Neil Plunkett followed this up with a visit to Grey Mist, originally aiming for the silvers but thinking he might possibly hit a tench took his heavier test curve rods just in case. Luckily, he did as he hooked and landed his PB mirror carp of 24lbs which fell for an 8mm wafter intended for tench. Neil was also appreciative for the kind assistance of another angler from the adjacent peg… all in all definitely a red-letter day.

Josh Bamber's trip last week to Ackers Pit for the first time in three years using a float rod rather than carp tackle for a change resulted in fifteen fish, roach, rudd, a perch, and two eels. Josh will definitely be back for more. Ken Hewitt (half of the Dynamic Duo) was also at the venue this past week and fishing waggler and red maggots he ended up with nine roach ranging 4 to 10oz and an unexpected mirror carp around 8 to 10lbs. The carp came after Ken cast in, setting his rod with the reel on bait runner, or so he thought, when reaching for his flask he looked up just in time to see his rod sliding off his rests. Thankfully knowing the water well his lightening reaction saved the day, but not the drive home wearing wet boots and trousers😊

Following a 4am start Gary Chadwick fished the Trent & Mersey Canal at Little Leigh where he set up on the stick-ups. He enjoyed a cracking mornings fishing catching big perch, skimmers, and lovely rudd on worm and red maggot. For those members that tend not to fish our canal systems there are some really excellent and picturesque spots.

Our Monday Disabled & Over 60's match this week was fished on Woodshaw Reservoir where match veteran Jeff Stoll won the day with a weight of 5-9-8. His winning net was made up of roach, perch, and crucians caught on both worm and two dead red maggots. Dave Blears was the runner-up with 3-15-4.  Nineteen anglers fished.
