7th February 2023 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

7th February 2023 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

On Monday we introduced 417lbs of beautiful conditioned roach and a handful of small perch neither of which had ever seen a hook to the resident stock at Cicily Mill Pool. They were in fantastic condition and around 4 to 8oz plus. There is also more work taking place to improve pegs. Thanks to the volunteers involved.

Ken Hewitt and Dave Gardner aka the Dynamic Duo were out again this week with High Legh Pools as their choice of venue. Unfortunately, Ken failed to catch today, but Dave managed to tempt two carp, a mirror 10lbs and a common just over 12lbs[fl1] . To quote Dave, 'the common fought like stink smashing his landing net'.  There were no signs of any roach or perch, but an enjoyable day on the method feeder and red robin 6mm pellet.

Mike Pritchard was out and about again enjoying his Saturday session on the Bridgewater Canal on the dead length at Walton. It was slow going but he persevered fishing red pinkie to end up with twenty roach and a solitary perch.

I have spotted a number of pike striking on the Bridgewater canal at Preston Brook this past week, one was a decent size, looked like a mid-double. Worth a visit.

Our Members Mersey Series Match on Sunday was again fished on the Mersey Walk stretch where fish seem to feed in greater numbers at this time of the year. Ade Green was the clear winner with a with a cracking net of fish for 12-6-0 beating the previous week's top weight by over 4lbs. Drawing peg 59 he fished the pole and maggot. Jimmy Byrne drew peg 65 to take second place with a weight of 10-14-0 (again beating the previous weeks winning weight by over 2.5lbs). Jimmy fished the feeder catching some roach on maggot plus thirty silver bream on bread-punch. Thirteen anglers fished. Due to a rowing event the match this coming Sunday will be on the Victoria Park stretch.

Our Disabled & Over 60's was fished on the Bridgewater at Walton and saw weights drop slightly from those of the previous week. Alan Clarke was the winner from the peg where match stalwart Graham Belton's ashes were scattered. Alan fished the pole and bread-punch for a net of small roach for 2-8-0. Second placed Alan Brown who also fished bread and was more than happy to settle for the runners-up spot again with an all roach catch for 2-5-0. Fourteen Anglers fished.

There will be two working parties on Sunday 12th February. One at Little Sandiway where the advice is to bring waders. The planned schedule is clearing snags and swim rebuild. Also, another is taking place at Rixton Claypits 9am start. Any help would be greatly appreciated at both.

A reminder that our rules do not permit the use on of single use bottles, cans, tins, or plastic packaging on any of our fisheries. Reusable containers are so cheap to buy for transporting food, drinks, bait, etc which should ensure that no litter is accidently left on site. Also, under no circumstances must anything be disposed of in public litter bins… TAKE IT HOME. Otherwise, some will lose their membership!

Our WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street, Warrington WA1 1LT remains closed on Friday evenings but members can simply post to this address or put their membership book or request in an envelope with their payment and a stamped addressed envelope, through our HQ door at 52, Parker Street, Warrington WA1 1LT where mail is collected and dealt with most days. Alternatively, you can post to Warrington Anglers Association PO. Box 71, Warrington WA1 1LR where mail is collected weekly.

Come on folks, please get in touch as your catch reports are especially welcome at this time of the year as sport slows and not as many of you on the banks. Lots of members rely on your shared information for their angling visits. Email secretary@warrington-anglers.org.uk
