14th February 2023 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

14th February 2023 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

We followed up last weeks stocking of Cicily Mill with another stocking on Sunday, this time at Ackers Pit when introduced over 500lbs of mainly quality roach plus a number of bream and perch. If you can't catch now I would suggest that you buy some golf clubs😊 Anyway, catch reports please. From there the team then drove to Rixton Claypits where ten carp were stocked plus a couple of containers of roach and perch. Thanks to everyone involved with special thanks to 8year old Rowan Brodie who delightedly released some of the carp.

Still a few pike being reported… Stuart Repon after enduring silent alarms for three hours switch to a wobbled trout which resulted in a pike and saved him a blank. Jonny Hughes after a quiet few hours at Moore Quarry changed his venue to the Bridgewater at Preston Brook which ended up with him catching a nice 9lb PB.

Jim Holt reports a catch of roach from Wide Hole at Poynton last week where he fished maggot on both waggler and a small groundbait feeder. He ended up with a dozen roach and a single skimmer. Our volunteers are looking to re-stone our carpark area soon which will hopefully encourage more usage of this fishery.

Our Members Mersey Series Match on Sunday was fished this week on the Victoria Park stretch where fish were scarce the last time it was fished, no doubt due in some part at that time by the work on Howley Weir. Match organiser Jimmy Byrne was the winner from peg 18 where he started off on bread but with half a dozen fish in his keepnet he swapped to groundbait feeder and red maggot to end up with eighteen roach and an 8oz skimmer for a weight of 4-13-0. Andy Hoyle took second place from the adjacent peg fishing the same method to end up probably a fish light of reversing the positions with 4-7-0. Eighteen anglers fished. Back at Mersey Walk next Sunday.

The Disabled & Over 60's match this week was fished on the Bridgewater at Moore and saw Stu Patterson the clear winner with double the weight of the nearest angler from a peg in the middle of the moored narrow-boats on Warrington side the bridge. He started off on bread but with nothing happening he changed to pinky which saw him end up with six skimmers in his net for 5-11-0. George Barber (aka The Breadman, reportedly a major shareholder in Warburtons) was the runner-up with small roach for 2-8-0. Eighteen Anglers fished.

Lots of work went on around our fisheries this past week thanks to our member volunteers improving pegs at Sandiway, Rixton Claypits, Grey Mist, and Cicily Mill. Anyone who wishes to help have a look at our Facebook Volunteers Page or watch this space.

Our WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street, Warrington WA1 1LT remains closed on Friday evenings but members can simply post to this address or put their membership book or request in an envelope with their payment and a stamped addressed envelope, through our HQ door at 52, Parker Street, Warrington WA1 1LT where mail is collected and dealt with most days. Alternatively, you can post to Warrington Anglers Association PO. Box 71, Warrington WA1 1LR where mail is collected weekly.

Come on folks, please get in touch as your catch reports are especially welcome at this time of the year as sport slows and not as many of you on the banks. Lots of members rely on your shared information for their angling visits. Email secretary@warrington-anglers.org.uk
