29th March 2022 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

29th March 2022 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Daniel Donlan sent me the following on Monday, "Thank you for my 25lbs Mothers-Day banger Frank and the Warrington Anglers Association, much appreciated." The banger was a 25lbs carp caught on orange double pop-up corn and pellet presented in PVA bag. Dan commented that it was possibly the nicest fish he had ever seen, a blue/grey colour, perfect not a mark on it, and his PB to date. The venue was Appleton Reservoir where he fished from a dam wall peg.

Also, back on Appleton Reservoir this last week was Andy Corr with his mate where both had a decent net of roach with a total of 22lbs between them which included some really stunning fish. Andy reckons it is the best roach water for miles and miles and I cannot disagree.

Ian Bridges reckoned he needed some exercise so bought himself a light spinning rod to try his luck lure fishing on the Bridgewater Canal, encouraged no doubt by regular reports of quality 2lbs plus perch catches. Well, nothing of that size on Saturday, but he landed five stripeys with the best around 8ozs and christened his rod to boot.

A report this week from our bailiff team at Wigan reports that sport at Woodshaw Reservoir has picked up over the past few weeks. Roach, skimmers, and perch mainly but crucians are also beginning to show up in catches. As usual there is always work going on weekly around this fishery, thanks guys.

Our weekly Monday Disabled & Over 60's Match on the Bridgewater Canal was drawn this week at Daresbury Labs and pegged either side of the bridge. It was a case of bread ruled and who would know that better than most but 'The Breadman' himself or as his Warrington Anglers Association record names him as George Barber. Pegged opposite the café he fished the pole at 4metres throughout to put 6-10-0 on the scales which included a bonus 4lbs bream plus roach. Al Faulkner took second place with 2-6-0 of roach on bread punch. Nineteen anglers turned out.

Our WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street, Warrington WA1 1LT remains closed on Friday evenings but members can simply post to this address or put their book or request in an envelope with their payment and a stamped addressed envelope, through our HQ door where mail is collected and dealt with most days. Alternatively, you can post to Warrington Anglers Association PO. Box 71, Warrington WA1 1LR where mail is collected weekly.

I really appreciate any catch reports from members, especially at this time of the year when they are understandably few and far between with there being not many anglers out fishing. Email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238
