5th April 2022 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

5th April 2022 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

The recent annual introduction in Grey Mist of the Dyofix colouring agent which helps to control excessive weed growth seems to have put a few anglers off this past week. Mist stalwart Philip Brown wasn't one of them and using a method feeder as he couldn't get a bite on float-fished corn he caught only one tench and commented, "But it is good just to be there!"

Jim Evans reports landing a pike weighing in at 16-4-0 from the Bridgewater Canal at Dunham on float-fished smelt, just the one but a PB. I was chatting to a member today (Tuesday) who was spinning small lures at Preston Brook. He had caught a few perch but nothing like the sizes of recent specimen reports.

Friday saw Jack Boswell enjoying a morning roach session on the Mount at Buckley where he caught fourteen of these chunky silvers, mainly around the 8 to 12oz mark on a groundbait feeder and double red maggot.

Our Monday Disabled & Over 60's Match on the Bridgewater Canal this week was fished at Walton with weights down from the previous week but at least everyone caught. It was an all-small roach event caught mainly on bread punch and probably due to the perch approaching spawning mode the latter were conspicuous by their absence.  Neil Buist aka The Engine clocked up his second win over the past three weeks with a weight of 1-14-0. Match organiser Jimmy Byrne was the runner-up with 1-10-8. Fifteen anglers turned out.

Thanks to the herculean efforts of our Mersey volunteers more pegs have been sorted over the past seven days. Great work guys …. just under ten weeks to go the to glorious sixteenth!

Our WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street, Warrington WA1 1LT remains closed on Friday evenings but members can simply post to this address or put their membership book or request in an envelope with their payment and a stamped addressed envelope, through our HQ door at 52, Parker Street, Warrington WA1 1LT where mail is collected and dealt with most days. Alternatively, you can post to Warrington Anglers Association PO. Box 71, Warrington WA1 1LR where mail is collected weekly.

There haven't been many catch reports from members this week, so I really would welcome info of your visits to any of our fisheries, many members rely on them as markers for their visits to the bankside. Email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238
