15th March 2022 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
New member Mick Clitheroe managed to fit in a session on the Wyre for his first trip out on Sunday where he equalled his PB chub with a fish of 5-1-0. He fished a quivertip with a small cage feeder filled with crushed micros and small pellets and a 3lb hook-length baited with a good old lobworm on a size 8 hook.
Paul Knowles fishing at Grey Mist was ready to pack up his gear and go home when you know how it is, we have all done it, the proverbial 'just one last cast.' A cracking tench of 7-2-0 was his reward.
Committee members Jay Makin and Andy Burrows were rewarded after sorting out an issue at The Mount last Wednesday with a few fish for their troubles. Jay landed three mirrors and a chunky roach and Andy two mirrors and a common just short of 19lbs. Jay used Munch Baits Bio-Marine 18mm boilies in mesh and PVA bags with Andy preferring Krill Sticky Baits 16mm boilies and 4mm pellets.
Michael White has been targeting the perch on the Bridgewater Canal again this past week with cracking fish caught on consecutive days, best went to just over 2.5lbs. A few small pike reported from the Moore to Preston Brook length.
Our last Sunday Mersey Match of the season before the closure of coarse fishing on our rivers from 15th March until it reopens again on the 16th June was fished this week at the Mersey Walk end of the river by twenty-one anglers. Bob Campbell was the winner with almost 3lbs to spare when he put his catch of fifteen roach on the scales to record a weight of 6-12-0. He fished a feeder down the middle of the river using liquidised bread and a big bread punch. Organiser Jimmy Byrne was the runner-up drawing peg 57 next door to where he took first place the previous week. He fished a feeder alternating between bread punch and white maggot for 3-15-0 made up of twenty roach and a brace of perch. Jimmy also was presented with the River Mersey Match Angler of the year by Alan Faulkner.
Our weekly Monday Disabled & Over 60's Match on the Bridgewater Canal was drawn this week at Houghs Bridge. Match organiser and winner Jimmy Byrne needed only 1-4-0 made up of six roach plus perch taken on pole fished bread punch, worm, and maggot. Alan Faulkner took second place with small roach caught on bread punch. Fifteen anglers turned out.

I really appreciate any catch reports from members, especially at this time of the year when they are understandably few and far between with there being not many anglers out fishing. Email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238
