3rd July, 2018 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
Thanks to our dedicated working party members most of the essential works around our waters and elsewhere are possible which keeps the price of our membership down. This week peg work has been taking place at Sandiway lakes where we have run out of scaffold poles so job stopped until we source some. Meanwhile the guys at Wigan have been busy strimming and keeping the fisheries in that vicinity in tip top condition. On Saturday there is a working party on Grey Mist that kicks off at 10am all welcome if you wish to help. There may be some swim disturbance but this as always will be kept to a minimum.
In light of complaints from members regarding some waters being fully booked for night sessions it is apparent that some members have neither turned up or cancelled their bookings. This is unfair so at Mondays monthly committee meeting it was decided in the interests of fair play to all that for a trial period all members must be on the fishery they have booked before 9pm on the night in question. If you have to cancel your booking it must be by text before 4pm on the day at the latest to allow others to be offered the place. Failure to turn up or cancel will result in an automatic one month suspension of your night fishing.
There has been a cracking catch reported by new member Matty Carter in the shape of a 27-4-0 grass carp from Moore Quarry which is his new PB. Well done Matty for both the catch and sharing it with other members. The Quarry is really fishing well at the moment for all species.
There has also been some good sport reported from Worthington Lakes where Arley, the middle water has been literally on fire producing a good mixed catch of fish that included a couple of decent bream for brand new member Colin Wood. The water levels are understandably down slightly but there is no detrimental effect on the fishing.
Our Saturday Mersey Series this week was won by Dave Brooks on pole and maggot with a net of roach and perch for 11-8-0. Match organiser Ray Boden's luck was in as fishing the same method he snared a 2.5lbs bream to boost his weight to 9-12-0 to take second place.
Sunday's Sid Jones Open on the Mersey was won by Alan Morris using his vintage pole of forty years with a catch of small skimmers, roach, and perch for 6-9-8. The runner-up was committee member Ade Green who lost out by a cat's whisker with a weight of 6-9-0. Both fished the same method using maggot.
This week our Monday Disabled & Over 60's match was fished on our Association owned Woodshaw Reservoir Fishery where both first and second places came from adjacent pegs. Winner Alan Birchall weighed 8-2-0 of roach and crucians. Second placed John Gary had a similar catch for 7-10-0.
