8th November 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

8th November, 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

A bit of good news is that our annual stocking program of pre-ordered VS Fisheries carp takes place on Saturday kicking off as usual at Grey Mist Mere around 12 noon followed by Moore Quarry and then on to Sandiway Lakes. There are twenty fish around the 20lbs mark although we never know exact weights until they are weighed at the venues on the day. All interested members welcome and anyone with a decent camera is especially so as our 'official photographer' is away on holiday.

Still on the carp scene (quiet, or should I say secretive for the past few weeks or so) Appleton Reservoir is still producing a few fish. Nick Sergeant had a nice mirror of 24lbs on Monday and the next day a member who had blanked on the water on his first three visits landed a mirror just short of 20lbs witnessed by committee member Ade Green who himself  had been catching a few roach on bread feeder from the wall.

Match results on the Bridgewater are poor although this is the time when the travelling light 'drop-shotting' members come into their own as the colour starts to drop out of the canal. Dennis Halpern reports catching five pike from 5lbs to the best at 11-8-0 along with two perch around the pound mark from the Lymm area.

Our Saturday Mersey Series match was won by Jimmy Byrne with 8-7-0 of roach taken on pole and maggot. Ray Boden was in second place with 4-10-0.

The following day Boden was back in the winners spot on Sunday's event with 9-5-5 of roach plus three perch, weaving more of his pole magic. Members keep asking me what his secret is and all I can say is he is an exceptional angler and a master of the Mersey. Runner-up was the same as last week, Dave Hill with 6-15-0 and in fact the next two places were the same names as last week.

The Disabled & Over 60's match saw low weights again on the Bridgewater Canal and George Barber who I have no doubt was fishing his favourite bread punch was the clear winner with 3-4-0 over double the weight of second places Mick Daniels who weighed in at 1-5-0.

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 8-30pm for new members, subscriptions, night permit renewals, and any queries. If you don't mind sharing your catch reports to help fellow members please email details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.
