29th November, 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
It is with sadness that I report the death of Joe Myers from Trough House Farm. Our condolences go out to his wife Christine and family.
Those members who fish our stretch of the Ribble will be aware that due to the kindness of Joe who was both an accomplished angler and longtime member of Warrington Anglers Association they were able to fish the upstream part as he allowed them to park their vehicles in his farmyard without charge. After Joe was diagnosed with terminal cancer just before Christmas last year it is the measure of the man that he was concerned that our parking in his farm be put on a permanent basis as the future was so uncertain. I must admit that this action really touched me in that he was thinking about others at such a time. The result is that this past week a new carpark that we share jointly with Prince Albert was duly completed.
Due to a fall in attendance the Saturday Mersey Series matches have been put on hold but will be reinstated if there are sufficient numbers of members interested. Our Sunday Mersey matches are taking place as normal but the draw time has been altered to 9-45am.
On Sunday, the weights were predictably low again and as this is the time of the year when catching small fish on a quiver tip really comes into play it was really no surprise to see last week's winner, the tip-master himself Paul Harding clock up another. He fished a groundbait feeder and maggot for an all roach catch of 3-6-0. The runner-up was Roy Everson fishing the same method with 2-15-0. Fish were tightly shoaled and the top four anglers were all bang on the money in more ways than one.
This weeks Disabled & Over 60's match fished again in the Dead Length saw Derek Bibby take the win with an all roach catch for a weight of 4-13-6. The match was dominated by small silver fish but second placed Keith Wernham persevered with caster and found a few larger roach for exactly 4lbs.
