30th June, 2015 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.
Paul Asher enjoyed good sport on Sandiway small lake last week when using chopped boilies on the hook and PVA bags to get past the weed he spodded with 15kg of bait and was into fish within quarter of an hour. He ended the session with five tench, two of which were like peas in a pod at 6-8-0, two bream, and two low double carp.
Carp started spawning on the Sandiway small lake on Tuesday so bailiffs have closed pegs where there is obvious activity. A good number of members have quite rightly opted for a change of venue rather than risk catching fish in their breeding cycle. There have been a few deaths due to the rigours of spawning hence the reason for annual top-up stocking to maintain numbers. Closure of pegs is not an exact science but our bailiffs try their best to achieve a degree of protection of spawning fish and that includes all species.
Weights were down in our Junior Woodshaw Reservoir match but Megan Connell collected her first win of the series with a mixed net of bream and roach weighing 5-4-0 taken on pole and disco maggots. Jake Parkinson was in second place with 4-5-0.
A change of venue from the canal to the Mersey saw Jimmy Byrne still in the prizes but relegated to third thus breaking a successful run of match wins. A local match ace from the same era, Derek Bibby took over the first place with 7-12-0 well ahead of second placed Ernie Lea on 2-4-12.
Ray Boden for the second week in succession had the winning weight on our Saturday Series Mersey match, although not a bream in sight. Ray caught his mixed net of 5-10-0 made up of perch and roach on the pole and maggot. Second placed Derek Bibby with a similar catch for 4-2-0 fished the same method.
Our Mersey Sunday Series saw Bob Clough well clear of the rest with 10-4-0 taken on the quiver tip using maggot and worm made up of a brace of decent bream and three perch. Neil Buist was the runner-up with 4-8-0 of three 1lb skimmers, small roach, and perch also taken on the same method.
The Woodshaw Junior Series held on Monday saw Dane Rawlinson fish pellet and paste on the pole to take crucians and roach to win the match with 8-10-0 of roach and crucians. Runner-up was Connor Croston with 6-12-0.
Just a reminder that members must use the official access points to our fisheries. Fences have been broken down by persons accessing Grey Mist Mere from the Household Waste Site end of the fishery when the entrance is from the opposite end via Bridge Lane. Bailiffs have been instructed to seize membership cards of offenders.
