23rd June, 2015 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.
Paul Floyd kicked of his river season with a 24hour session on our stretch of the Wye and amazingly had it all to himself. He reports that the fishing was outstanding catching six barbel including a long awaited Wye double of 10-5-0. He also had four chub to just over 4lbs. All fish came to running rig feeder tactics and homemade boilie. Over the weekend a change of venue nearer home on our Ribble fishery at Hurst Green Paul landed a 12-5-0 barbel and a chub of 5lbs so in all not a bad weeks fishing.
Some quality tench are coming out of both lakes at Sandiway with Ken Buckley having two at 9lbs and one at 7lbs on Tuesday. The smaller17.5acre water is proving very popular at present as there is currently more carp action, mainly doubles, and rumours of a 34lbs plus caught last week. Add to this that the average size of tench is on the up due to all the high protein feed being introduced and a nine pounder a distinct possibility and you can understand why.
Weights were down in our Junior Woodshaw Reservoir match but Megan Connell collected her first win of the series with a mixed net of bream and roach weighing 5-4-0 taken on pole and disco maggots. Jake Parkinson was in second place with 4-5-0.
Jimmy Byrne has again clocked up yet another win in our Disabled & Over 60's weekly Monday match with a net of small silver fish for 3-9-10. Lenny Dutton was in second spot with 2-14-8 and really only a few fish separated those following. They have decided on a change of venue to the River Mersey for next week's match in the hope of some heavier weights.
The first River Mersey match of the new season was held on Saturday and saw match organiser Ray Boden chalk up the first win with 8-15-0 made up of a 4lbs bream, skimmers, and perch caught on maggot or worm on leger and quiver tip. The following weights then dropped considerably and Norman Gannon was the runner-up with 2-4-0 made up a small bream and perch fishing the same method.
Our 1st Association Contest was also held on the Mersey and also won by Ray Boden with a couple of quality bream, skimmers, and perch for 14-1-0 taken again on the tip using maggot or worm. Martin Lenihan fished the same method for second place with 7-12-0 and a similar catch albeit almost half the winners weight. The only angler in the frame who chose to fish the pole was Jimmy Byrne.
The Woodshaw Junior Series held on Monday saw Dane Rawlinson take an early lead to win the match with 19-13-0 of roach, crucians, and tench taken on pole and pellet. Matt Dawber fished a similar method and was in second place with 8-10-0. Don't forget this weekly series is open to all our junior members so if you are interested drop me an email for details.
