9th April 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

9th April 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Junior member Lewis Turner braved the Woodshaw Reservoir mistral to tempt a personal best perch weighed and witnessed by our local bailiff Len Kinley at just wavering under the 4lbs mark. Lewis also added a few crucians for good measure.

Kevin Beech had only one run at Cicily Mill Pool on Wednesday but it resulted in a fish that I am informed goes under the handle of 'Half Lin' weighing in at 20-10-0. It fell to a stand alone single fishmeal boilie with no freebies. A few tench are also starting to feed which is generally good news following the lengthy winter conditions.

Similarly on Grey Mist tench are feeding with up to seven fish landed in a session. I am reliably informed that a few carp have also been caught following a barren period.

Rixton Claypits has produced a fish of 15-5-0 and as mentioned above, also tench activity. Rixton was one of our feature waters at the Northern Angling Show where members were amazed at the previously unseen carp pictures caught by father and son duo Mark and Dan Richards from this popular fishery. I must admit to a certain degree of personal satisfaction as it destroyed the assertions by one angler who gave me untold grief last year claiming 'there were no carp in Rixton.'

The Bridgewater Canal continues to amaze as the Disabled & Over 60's match colloquially referred to by those who take part as 'the knacker bags' results show this week. Match ace Jimmy Byrne was two pounds clear of his nearest rival with 12-15-8 of caster caught skimmers. Pete Critchley on 8-10-8 was runner up with a similar net of fish whereas Alan Clarke had an all roach catch of 8-0-8 taken on caster. A few have asked why I don't fish this popular series; well the truth is I am simply not good enough and would be pools fodder.

Well done to both our Blue and Green teams who are through to the second round of the Angling Times Supercup Competition. The latter that were up against Congleton had a real nail biter when John Dagnall lost a big carp on his first cast and then remained bite less until 2pm whereupon a change of tactics brought him two chub plus a tiny perch in three casts, phew.
