30th April 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

30th April 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

New member Peter Hawkins has been away from our sport for a few years but on his first visit to Rixton Claypits he was soon catching fish and more importantly really enjoying his fishing again. He started his account off with an 8-6-0 pike taken on smelt deadbait and later float-fished alternating between pellet and maggot when he caught roach, skimmers and bream to 3lbs. The following day Ben Hesketh and his mate Ashley Gough fished the venue and had a dozen tench to 4-8-0 and Ben had an old common between 13-14lbs. Most of the fish fell to carp tactics with boilies in the margins with some added silver fish taken on waggler. They were there again the next morning with scaled down carp rigs resulting in a dozen tench and a crucian hybrid.

Phil Hancock enjoyed a session on Grey Mist Mere on Monday but did not get a bite until 10am and ended up with seven tench, the best two were like peas in a pod at 6lbs apiece. Maggots feeder was the method.

Fred A Another (I think he was supposed to be working) reports that Woodshaw Reservoir has woken up and is open for business. He landed over a dozen crucians and three tench in an impromptu afternoon session on Thursday. They were all taken on bread and the smallest fish was well over a pound. Reg Smith reckons he had his best days fishing on this small venue with crucians, tench, and roach action all day. He fished a waggler and maggot.

Dave Statter reports a mirror catch with a difference, the same fish twice within seven days weighing in at 23-5-0. I believe a few fish are starting to move but the water is very cold and needs a few days of sunshine to nudge it up a degree or so.

The weights were again low in our Disabled & Over 60's event held on the Bridgewater Canal between Hough's Bridge and Walton. The vast shoals that over wintered in this stretch have now dispersed and only small roach and perch were caught. Pinkie and punch accounted for most catches. Lennie Dutton who draws more end pegs than most was true to form and made it pay by taking the main cash prize with 1-14-2 closely followed by Derek Bibby on 1-13-4. There is no match on bank holiday Monday but resumes the following week.

MacIntyre Shared Lives is an organisation supporting people with learning difficulties and it recruits people to act as carers. It could be just for a few hours or overnight to give the person a break from their families. It is a paid role and is a bit like foster care but for adults and as a result people are not taxed on their earnings and it doesn't affect benefits. They are looking for someone to pair up with a man who is mad keen on angling. Interested? Give Kathryn Yates a call on 07824 416406.
