23rd April 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

23th April 2013 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

One cast and it was game set match in favour of Nick Daniels the winner of our popular Disabled & Over 60's Match. His first put in resulted in a 3-6-0 bream to which he added just short of a couple of pounds of silver fish for a total of 5-2-0. Pete Critchley with 2-12-0 made the runner-up spot. There were a good number of weights around the 2lbs mark so it was close for the rest of the field. The change of venue to Grappenhall Trees saw good numbers of small fish caught.

Cheshire Junior Spring League held on Saturday at Preston Brook saw low weights but Warrington AA team member Adam Harman made this first round a decisive win with 3-8-0 with second placed Tom Heron fishing for Northwich on 1-11-0. Warrington are currently league leaders.

Ken Beeny had a great morning session on Tuesday from the Bridgewater just up from Brooklands Bridge where he caught a shed full of quality roach on bread punch. He returned later in the afternoon to use up a half pint of maggots and again had great sport from the same swim but on this occasion there was not a single roach caught instead it was perch that were quite literally queuing up to get at his bait.

Tench are now starting to feed on both Rixton Claypits and Grey Mist Mere. At Rixton there have also been lots of roach and skimmers taken on pellet and caster plus a reported lower twenty carp. At the Mist the best tench catch I have heard of was a dozen fish with most being around 5 to 6lbs. Carp on this venue are also more active and more importantly getting their heads down with the best reported a mirror of 23lbs.

Ian Rushmore enjoyed a cracking roach session on the Macclesfield Canal at Scholar Green where he reckons he had around 12 to 15lbs of beautiful redfins taken on pole and caster. One of our most underused waters is Wide Hole which is open on one side to the Macclesfield Canal at Poynton. It is always worth a visit as the fish shoal up at this venue.
