All members should be aware that the rivers are now closed to coarse angling until the 16th June when the season re-opens. There have been a number of incidents reported where anglers have been fishing and flouting the law and in each case their presence has been reported the Environment Agency Fishery Team. Vigilance is needed by members who due to the real possibility of fish theft should treat anyone fishing as suspect. In every case do not approach but ring the Environment Agency immediately on 0800 807060 your positive action could prevent fish being stolen.
Just when we all thought that the better weather would bring with it an improvement in sport it appears that the fish were unimpressed and by and large did not get their heads down and feed as predicted by many. For all Grey Mist Mere saw large numbers of anglers on the bank the majority blanked. I have a planned trip out on Thursday so fingers crossed that matters vastly improve.
Even the run of good match weights for our Disabled & Over 60's event took a downward turn as winner George Barber needed only 3-3-8 to take the money. George caught hybrids on bread or caster fishing down the track. The next three prize-winners were quite close but Jimmy Byrne tucked himself into second spot with 2-8-2.
Another 4lbs perch has been caught from pocket sized Woodshaw Reservoir; it could be a re-capture of the one reported last week, who can tell. Whatever the case it is a real specimen to come from such a small fishery. Roach and crucians taking maggot or pellet/paste.
If any member has not received their 2013 membership booklet please get in touch with me or call in at HQ with their 2012 membership as there is obviously something amiss and it will not magically appear on your doormat. Post can go astray, get caught in mail sorting machinery, and of course us or a depot can make a mistake.
Would anglers please avoid the Bridgewater Canal at Preston Brook on Saturday where we are hosting a junior team event. It stretches from Waters Meet to Keckwick.
