4th April 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

3rd April 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Tench are starting to feed at Grey Mist Mere with good numbers of quality fish reported, but alas not too many carp. Corn, both the real deal and fake seems to be the best bait. One of the original carp dating from the sixties died last week from old age and related problems but the new stock is going from strength to strength and piling on weight. Reports of an eel just over 5lbs being caught on Tuesday, but no other details.

Still good reports coming from Rixton but mainly skimmers and roach plus a few tench, no carp action reported. Neil Plunkett has certainly got the bit between his teeth, a taste of freedom from our working party yoke and there is no stopping him. He reports taking ten bream 1.5 to 2.5lbs along with some nice roach to over a pound.

I had a trip up to The Mount at Buckley over the weekend and was given the guided tour by our resident bailiffs. They had cut out and constructed several really tasty looking new pegs at the top end where it is deeper with less weed. The water has definitely coloured up no doubt due to feeding carp and tench. Daz Jones had eighteen tench and carp to 14lbs on a method feeder and imitation corn. New member Martin Price and John Hopkinson fished adjacent to our car park and had several carp to 8lbs that included a one-eyed fish. I would lay any money on its nick-name. They also had a mixed catch of perch, roach, and bream taken mainly on red maggot and sweetcorn.

With only one match remaining in our Local Winter League it looks as though Warrington Red are virtually untouchable with a thirteen point lead over Cheshire Anglers Gold who just happen to be also thirteen ahead of Black Claggers. Mind you I have seen disasters happen in the past, but the best of luck to all teams.

Our 1st Association Contest on Monday saw Bud Lea put 5-4-2 on the scales for a well deserved win.  Dave Blease was second with 3-2-0. Again pole fished bread and caster sorted out the better fish but some anglers struggled for a few fish.

It's not a moan but don't forget if you are using a bait boat and are opposite another angler the unwritten halfway rule applies. That means it is not the done thing to send a boat to the far side of a fishery to drop your bait adjacent to a fellow angler. Also while I am on the subject it is also not responsible angling practice to drop baited tackle in areas full of snags where more fish are lost than landed.

Don't forget let me have any catch reports either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ 52, Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 9pm every Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
