10th April 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.
Our netting team were out at an unusual venue this past week for a fish rescue exercise at National Grid Partington LNG. This gas plant is being decommissioned and the cooling water pond was teeming with fish. The company kindly donated the expense involved for the fish health check which showed them to be perfectly healthy. The first batch of approximately a thousand roach have been introduced into the Bridgewater Canal at Grappenhall where they will spread in both directions. More are intended for High Legh and Grey Mist Mere.
On Tuesday two of us were out again in a joint exercise at Winsford Angler's Ocean Pool with both theirs and Lymm AC netting team members. The result was that we released a further sixty three mirror carp into Appleton Reservoir to join the eighty or so introduced in November last year. This fishery that once held one of the fastest growing strains of roach in the country has been ravaged by cormorants, so much so that it is a complete waste of time and money introducing any 'bite sized' fish until these avian predators can be legally controlled.
Fishing at the Mount at Buckley is still proving a hit as it would appear that our heavy stocking with carp at the end of last year has really stirred up the original resident fish population. Good catches of roach have been reported with Paul Nicholls taking specimens up to 2lbs along with a 20lbs common carp for good measure. Local rod Paul Ellert had one of the original mirrors at 25.5lbs. Neil Plunkett was there after the Bank Holiday and caught sixteen carp to 10lbs.
If any member has not yet received their new 2012 membership book please contact me immediately. It may be an address or postal problem, but in any case your 2011 membership acts as your receipt and indicates where and the date it was paid so there is no cause for concern. Simply give me a ring or an email.
I would remind members that the consumption of alcohol on our fisheries is banned, there are no excuses if caught and you will have your membership withdrawn. We have held back for many years from following the example of other clubs in the vain hope that all members would take a responsible attitude to drinking whilst fishing but this has just not worked. Two members recently caught and had their memberships withdrawn for 3 months by the committee on Tuesday. Fish welfare and members safety is paramount hence the rule.
Don't forget let me have any catch reports either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ 52, Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 9pm every Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
