17th April 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

17th April 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

The Disabled & Over 60's match held at Stage Lane saw Jeff Clare take the main prize money with an all skimmer catch weighing 4-14-12. Jeff pole fished bread at 12metres. After a fair old length of time out of the prizes match organiser John Dagnall came in second with another all skimmer catch taken on the pole alternating between bread and caster. Third and fourth had more fish but strangely theirs were all roach catches.

Paul Floyd was having a lean spell at Grey Mist Mere when following a sudden ten minute shower of hailstones the fish just switched on. The guy on a near peg started the ball rolling with a 17-6-0 mirror that Paul followed with another mirror of 22-4-0 and added a few tench to his catch. He used pellet filled PVA bags and 8mm pellet on the hook. Josh Turner reports catching his first Mist mirror which weighed in at 21-9-0 plus three decent sized tench. The tench at this fishery are now getting their heads down to some serious feeding and there are reports of some members having double figure catches with good numbers of fish over 6lbs.

Good catches of roach, rudd, and chub reported from Fosters Pools with the larger D fishery producing the best results. Jim Swale was kept busy during his afternoon session when he fished pole and maggot for over fifty fish to 10ozs. He lost a decent carp at the net that had stretched his 4's elastic to the opposite bank on a number of occasions and eventually straightened his 20's hook just as the words 'you're mine' entered his thoughts.

Buckley is still the place to visit if you are looking for some early season sport, and not only for carp as the roach and tench now need to compete for food against their larger rivals or go hungry. John Dutton fished a method feeder and 6mm soft pellet for a mixed bag of small carp, tench, and quality roach to 1.5lbs. Don't forget if you are targeting carp you must be in possession of an unhooking mat, and really the same should apply to tench. They are only cheap to buy and easily pack into your net bag.
