Grey Mist Mere received a further batch of ten carp on Saturday morning comprised of nine mirrors and one common. Six fish averaged just over 13lbs, two at 15lbs, with the two largest at 20.5 and 21lbs. All the fish are from a year class spawned on the 14th May, 2008, so they are amazingly less than 4years old and have a lot of growing years ahead. The fish are from the following bloodline crosses: Sutton x Dinkesbuehl, Leney x Dinkesbuehi, and a few pure bloodline offspring Sutton x Sutton.
For the record all the fish were photographed on both sides for future identification and will be put on our website and also displayed in the bailiffs' site cabin.
On Saturday afternoon Sandiway 'small' lake, a bit of an understatement considering it is 17.5acres, was stocked with twenty two mainly mirrors averaging around 7lbs. Thanks for the help and interest from those members who turned up at both venues.
Introductions around other waters on a needs basis of roach, rudd, and crucians are also in the pipeline during 2012.
Lennie Dutton took the top spot in our popular weekly Disabled & Over 60's match fished at Beech Road. He put a mainly skimmer net on the scales for 13-14-4 taken on the pole using bread and caster. Runner-up and sitting on the next peg to the winner George Barber put together a catch of two decent sized bream and a few skimmers for 8-4-12. Fish are still tightly shoaled.
In contrast the Mersey match on Sunday was a dour affair definitely affected by the fluctuation in river level throughout the event. Anglers really struggled for bites but regular Paul Harding found a few fish on the maggot feeder for a clear win with 3-8-0 comprised of bream and roach.
Our small and sheltered C & D Fosters Pools complex at Wigan is producing some cracking sport with mainly roach, rudd, and chub. Dave Shaw had a mixed net of over sixty fish from 'C' taken on pole and maggot. A few carp are also back on the feed. At Woodshaw Reservoir crucians and roach are making up most catches but wrap up well as the wind on this fishery is evil.
Many thanks to the thief who stole our rowing boat from Woodshaw which although it wasn't in the best of condition it was good enough for the aquatic maintenance and conservation work carried out around our Wigan fisheries by our team of volunteers. My first thought which I dismissed was to hope it sank with the thief onboard, but there's good in everyone so we are told, perhaps if he reads this it will strike a chord and it will be returned freshly painted. Now that would really restore my faith in human nature.
