17th January 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

17th January 2012 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes.

Our Wigan bailiff team report that the sheltered Foster's Pools (C & D) are producing good sport with roach, rudd, and chub to maggot. However the Carp Pool and Mowpin are tough at present with regular anglers reporting the odd blank session.

A mile or so away as the crow flies Woodshaw Reservoir is also on good form with junior member, James Brown having a good days sport with lots of small roach amongst which were six quality crucians. Local rod Alan Webber also had two decent sessions catching eleven crucians on the first visit and 8 the following day. These were backed up with plenty of roach action.

Ladies International Wendy Locker owner of Tackle Locker, our Chester licence/membership depot reports that the River Dee is now in almost perfect condition and that good dace catches are being taken along with a few chub.

The Mersey match on Sunday was won by Jimmy Byrne with 3-10-8 of small roach and perch taken on a ground bait feeder and maggot. The river was coloured and running through with some pace so the feeder was the method of the day.

Ron Durr won our Monday Disabled & Over 60's match on the Bridgewater Canal with almost the identical weight of the previous week, in fact he dropped an ounce but was still rewarded with the double for his 3-11-0 mixed net. It was a tie for second with Derek Bibby and Lennie Dutton both on 3-1-0.

The popular Baileys Tackle Pike Series is on again on Sunday, draw at the tackle shop 20, Parksway, Woolston at 9am. Fishing is from 10am to 3pm.

We are stocking both Grey Mist Mere and Sandiway small lake on Saturday morning and are expecting at least several 20's and some upper doubles in the consignment from VS Fisheries but exact numbers won't known until on the day.

Please note that the tree that has been blocking access to our car park on the River Dane has now been removed so a big thanks on behalf of the members to our volunteers. The fishing has been slow and not too rewarding for those members who braved the long walk to the river due to the blockage with just a few chub being caught.

I would welcome any catch reports either by phone Tel 01928 716238 or email frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ Parker Street is now open as usual between 7 & 9pm on Friday, for subscriptions, new memberships/night permits, or any queries.
