4th August, 2009 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

The July Catch of the Month was eventually a decider between a 24-9-0 'nuisance carp' caught by as may guess an avid tench angler from Sandiway Lakes and a 10lbs barbel from our Hurst Green stretch of the River Ribble. The latter won the day having been caught by barbel virgin Marc Dack. Yes, it was his first which he targeted over five consecutive evening sessions using halibut pellets. Marc wins over £100 worth of Bait-Tech products plus a Korda carp care kit.

Thankfully for Marc not entered in the July competition is a superb 40-1-0 mirror carp caught by Bernard Anderson from one of our fisheries. The fish was caught several weeks ago and weighed and witnessed by three other members. Bernard told me previously that he was targeting this fish which has in the past weighed in the region of 36 to 38lbs but it had obviously packed on weight during the spring period. It fell for a 10mm Mach 1 Nash boilie.

You can take a horse to water etc springs to mind when two members spent time watching our dynamic duo Ernie and Dickie bagging up on quality roach and hybrids at Worthington Lakes (Arley) using both the pole and waggler on Sunday. Alternating between caster and maggot Ernie reckoned the better stamp of fish came to the waggler. He had tried the tip a few times but only had a couple of bites, needless to say the two anglers promptly set up with tip rods.

Our committee do not favor bans of any description with the exception of anything which is detrimental to animal or fish welfare. We are getting reports that members are fishing on Sandiway using bait-boats at ridiculous range, way beyond casting distance and into weed beds, consequently bring fish in covered in masses of heavy weed. Also there is the nuisance aspect of crossing fellow anglers' lines. Members must use a common sense approach to the use of these craft.

Please don't forget to let us have your catch reports and Catch of the Month entries for August, if you are not in it you cannot win it!

Please let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238 FAX 01928713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street will be open on Friday evening as usual between 7 & 9-30pm for subscriptions, new members, etc.
