11th August, 2009 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
The river Wye is back in form according to one of our members who spent last weekend down at Hay- on –Wye, sadly I only caught his Christian name from the message but suffice to say Alan was a very very happy man. He had a new personal best barbel weighed and witnesses at 14lb dead as well as nets of quality chub, grayling and dace throughout the weekend.
The Mersey too is doing well with match catches averaging over 5lb per man.
Cecily mill has been doing well with good numbers of tench, crucian carp and lower doubles being taken on various baits.
Grey Mist has been unusually slow for the last few weeks but bailiff Keith Heyes reported one as angler having eleven carp which I am reliably informed, became fifteen before he finished his session.
There have been several carp found dead on the `Mist' over the past few weeks with no clue as to why none of the usual signs exhibited when any carp disease is present. The Environment Agency has been informed as a precaution and they will monitor the situation the fisheries officer has checked the water only a few hours ago, dissolved oxygen readings etc and everything appears fine no signs of fish in distress so no reason take further action.
Although it is always advisable to dry nets, weigh slings and unhooking mats not forgetting the bags they are carried in before visiting any fishery this is the only sure way to kill off viruses and avoid transfer from water to water.
It could just be coincidence that several fish have died is a relatively short space of time.
Some were very old fish. It could even be as a result of someone using improperly prepared baits. The culprit could be the tiger nuts remnants of which have were found on the bank side at Grey Mist.
Not all anglers buy properly prepared particle baits or know how to prepare them safely and `do it yourself' tiger nuts can be lethal one of the reasons why they are banned on `the mist'
Needless to say anyone caught using these baits on Grey Mist will very quickly find they are no longer a member of Warrington AA in short we would rather have your space than your company if you put the fish at risk. Fish welfare always comes first.
Many thanks and apologies to members who have emailed or `phoned to tell us their subs are already paid after receiving reminders. This has occurred due to an oversight by one of our depots consequently records in some cases were incorrect. Do still let us know if you have already paid and then received a reminder so we can check and rectify your records if necessary.
It has been highlighted recently that while there are several hundred members registered on our site relatively few take an active part in proceedings. We are unsure as to why, if you are registered and have had any difficulties gaining access please send me an email with your user name and I will follow it up
Please don't forget to let us have your catch reports and Catch of the Month entries for August, if you are not in it you cannot win it!
Please let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238 FAX 01928713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.
HQ Parker Street will be open on Friday evening as usual between 7 & 9-30pm for subscriptions, new members, etc.
