2nd June 2009 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Choosing the 'Catch of the Month' at our committee meeting on Monday was not as difficult a task as usual owing to the 'Cicily Common' making an appearance for James Simpson earlier this month at 32-7-0.

This beautiful specimen was the unanimous choice and has netted him over £100 of BaitTech products plus a Korda carp care kit. Commiserations to the other entrants but keep the catch reports coming in there is the June prize up for grabs now.

Danny Worrall 10years had a personal best mirror carp from Grey Mist Mere on Sunday which weighed in at 21-0-0. After being advised by one of our bailiffs (who will remain nameless) that "You'll catch nothing there" he promptly latched onto the mirror which fell for no specially prepared boilies or other concoctions but amazingly hair rigged fake boilie and corn.

The Saturday Howleston Cup match was dire with only a couple of tiny fish caught and youngsters struggling for a bite. I can understand why after walking around the `Mist' yesterday the water was alive with fish moving and crashing around in the reeds they just didn't have food on their minds as they were too busy spawning. Many thanks to Barry Fleming and other carp anglers who ran the match and organised food for the competitors it was much appreciated.

Woodshaw Reservoir is providing good sport with small carp, crucians, roach and perch, mainly to maggot but paste is accounting for the bigger fish. Close by Fosters Pools are really worth a visit where it is almost a bite every cast, granted they are not all massive fish but there are still one or two that but a bend in the rod.

I really don't like to moan but the fact is that some anglers are fishing in snags using bait boats where only the occasional fish that is hooked is successfully landed. On a fish welfare aspect this is totally unacceptable. Also we have had several complaints about the behavior of a few members on the big lake at Sandiway who are playing loud music, sharing pegs not meant for two, and not using proper field craft when answering the call of nature. As usual a few could spoil things for everyone as it has sharply called into question the wisdom of allowing anglers to stay for three consecutive nights. The committee and bailiffs will be monitoring the situation.

Please let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238 FAX 01928713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk.

HQ Parker Street will be open on Friday evening as usual between 7 & 9-30pm for subscriptions, new members, etc.
