7th March 2023 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

7th March 2023 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

New member Mike Halewood ended up with his first fish from Grey Mist Mere this week, which he describes as a, "Stunning scaly 22-8-0 mirror." It did come after four sessions but worth the wait… we sometimes forget it is still winter. Mike caught it on a white OG pop-up and chod rig. Head bailiff Jay Makin on an overnight session also managed to tempt a 22lbs mirror from the Mist to open up his 2023 account. His fish came to a pink mulberry pop-up with the PVA bag filled with 4mm pellets and crushed manilla boilies.

On Friday James Shimmon using solid bags with 12mm CCW C-Nut boilies as hook bait enjoyed his day session on The Mount at Buckley being rewarded with two mirrors and a common carp. New member Chris Roberts made the most of the first few hours use of his Warrington Anglers Association membership this past weekend at this popular fishery. He presented two zig rigs at 4ft depth to catch two carp, the best a common just under 12lbs. Always worth a visit for a confidence booster😊

Mike Pritchard had a busy Saturday session on the Bridgewater Canal at Walton reporting a catch of over fifty fish, mainly chunky roach along with two perch and four hybrids. He fished a small waggler with pinkie but the better-quality roach came later to caster.

A few jack-pike reported being caught on the Bridgewater Canal from the Preston Brook area, still the exercise is an additional benefit😊

Our Members Mersey Series on Sunday was cancelled again due to damage to Howley Weir that has caused unsafe low river levels for the past few weeks. The level will be inspected on Friday but unless there is a massive influx of water it is not looking too promising that it will go ahead.

The Monday Disabled & Over 60's match this week was back on the Bridgewater Canal at Walton and was a complete reversal from last week which saw possibly the lowest weights that I have reported for some time. This week's winner Alan Brown drew a peg opposite the Walton Park buildings and set the scene with a cracking roach catch all taken on bread-punch and weighing in at  8-10-0. The runner-up was The Breadman himself (George Barber), as you would expect also on the white stuff which produced a roach net of 7-12-0. There was also a fair few 4 and 5lb catches which are not too bad considering this is only a four-hour match. Seventeen Anglers fished.

Don't forget that any member on our waters must be able to produce to our bailiffs a fully paid up 2023 membership book which has a current passport size photograph affixed inside the rear cover where indicated. It is not valid without and no excuses will be accepted. Also, we are fed up with some members ignoring our rule 13 that single use bottles, cans/tins/plastic packaging are not allowed on any of our fisheries. A simple solution is to buy reusable containers to accommodate the contents, they are not expensive.

Our WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street, Warrington WA1 1LT remains closed on Friday evenings but members can simply post to this address or put their membership book or request in an envelope with their payment and a stamped addressed envelope, through our HQ door at 52, Parker Street, Warrington WA1 1LT where mail is collected and dealt with most days. Alternatively, you can post to Warrington Anglers Association PO. Box 71, Warrington WA1 1LR where mail is collected weekly.

Please get in touch as your catch reports which are especially welcome at this time of the year as sport slows and not as many of you are out on the banks. Lots of members rely on your shared information for their angling visits. Email secretary@warrington-anglers.org.uk
