28th March 2023 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

28th March 2023 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Matty Finch and his son Koree aged 10years enjoyed their Saturday overnight session on Grey Mist this past weekend. The keen youngster ended up with a PB tench of 8lbs plus a mirror carp of 15lbs beating his dad who only managed one tench around the 7lbs mark. Evidently when the pair are on the water it is gloves off with no holds barred for who ends up with the best catch. Bait was sweetcorn and Mainline cell boilies. Well done Koree.

On Sunday Robert Ledson christened his brand new Warrington Anglers membership choosing Phoenix Park Lake for his first visit to one of our fisheries. Fishing with a maggot feeder he ended up with four tench plus a pike which fell for dead-bait. Robert is looking forward to his next choice of venue.

Ian Simms enjoyed his leisurely and productive lure fishing session on the Bridgewater Canal at Agden on Monday. He was rewarded with two jack-pike both taken on a small Rapala lure.

The Dynamic Duo (Ken Hewitt and Dave Gardner) are teetering on the edge of taking up golf following their visit this week to High Legh. The nearest they got to seeing an actual fish was when Ken was snapped with what was probably a carp and Dave had a few knocks. A few fish were taking the mickey topping on the surface but not in a feeding mood. This pair are legends and I really hope that they 'bag-up' on their next outing😊.

The Monday Disabled & Over 60's match this week was fished on the Bridgewater Canal at Grappenhall Trees and Jimmy Byrne who drew opposite the tennis courts was the winner with forty small roach for 2-15-10 all caught on liquidised bread and punch. Dave Blears took the runner-up spot close behind Jimmy with just over an ounce separating them with a weight of 2-14-0 which included three perch and roach taken on pinkie. Eighteen anglers fished.

Some members were unaware that the Weaver Navigation is covered by the River Coarse Fish Closed Season so it is closed from 15th March and reopens on 'the glorious 16th June.'

A reminder that our AGM is on Thursday at Grappenhall Ex-servicemen's Club starting at 8pm. Current paid up membership cards must be produced at the door.

Work party on Sunday 2nd April at Rixton Claypits 8-30am start…help improve your fishery, any time you can give is much appreciated by our volunteers.
