19th November 2019 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Jorden Ackers posted pics on our members Facebook page of two cracking perch from 'a stretch of canal' but withheld the exact location, absolutely no problem with that. His advice was light lures with decent paddle tails. Three of our canal fisheries have produced fish of this calibre, namely the Bridgewater, Trent & Mersey, and the not so widely appreciated Macclesfield Canal where in the past quality perch have been landed in matches. So, if you fancy a slice of the action simply arm yourself with an unhooking mat (pike are more than a possibility), a light spinning/drop-shot rod and reel, landing net, assortment of lures, and you are ready to go.

Still not the best of conditions but at least our Mersey Match Series was on again this Sunday following the cancellation last week due to flood conditions. However, not a lot to write home about as understandably at this time of the year anglers struggled for bites but Roy Everson put together a catch of ten roach and a 4oz skimmer caught on groundbait feeder and maggot for a winning weight of 1-11-0. Close on his heels was Jim Gannon using the same method who also had ten roach for 1-8-0 but unfortunately not the vital 4oz skimmer!

Our Monday Disabled and Over 60's match was back on the Bridgewater Canal this week at Daresbury Labs stretch. Bud Lea drew the peg nearest to the expressway to catch eight roach and a bonus 2lbs bream on pole-fished bread punch to take a clear win with 2-11-9. Second placed Roy Brown pegged nearer the Labs also had about the same number of roach for 0-8-13. Seventeen anglers turned out.

A warning to anyone contemplating a trip to the Dee at Worthenbury please be aware that a member reported recent damage to the access track at Worthenbury confirmed by our local bailiff due to run-off from flooded fields into the brook.

This is the time of year when there is a vast reduction of anglers on the banks so I would really welcome any catch reports good, bad, or indifferent as these help fellow members to know how waters are fishing and plan their outings. WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm. New members are welcome to call in and join, current ones can renew their subscription, or night permit.
