12th November 2019 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

12th November 2019 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Last week I heard quite positive rumours that there has been a 41lbs carp caught from Sandiway Big Lake. I understand that it was stocked in 2005 at 15lbs so it has shown a steady growth record. I would welcome any further detail from the 'mystery captor'.

Despite the weather it is a case of more pike reports no doubt because members can travel light and choose reasonable lulls in the rainy conditions. Ian Pargeter sent me a report from the Bridgewater Canal at Boothstown, which is an area of the Bridgewater that we rarely hear about despite as I am informed it is full of fish. Ian was targeting the pike and fishing lures and hadn't had a take for the first hour but kept on the move. Then within in the space of two hundred metres he landed three fish, nothing massive but all in pristine condition. Sam Jeffries fished the canal at Preston Brook on Sunday and had several takes but ended up with one pike landed weighing 12-8-0.

Much to the disappointment of our hardy band of Mersey match series supporters the event was cancelled this week due to the extreme flood conditions. Fingers crossed it should be on for next Sunday. Match organiser Ray Boden has asked me to mention that he would like members to book on our Christmas Mersey Match by Sunday 17 November 2019 so he has an accurate count of those taking part.

Our Disabled and Over 60's match was fished on our Woodshaw Reservoir Fishery on Monday and saw match organiser Jimmy Byrne clock up yet another win.  Jimmy had a net of roach and skimmers caught on the pole using maggot and caster for a weight of 5-15-0. Mike Worley fished the tip and maggot and took second place with 4-3-4 of bream and roach.

This is the time of year when there is a vast reduction of anglers on the banks so I would really welcome any catch reports good, bad, or indifferent as these help fellow members to know how waters are fishing and plan their outings. WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm. New members are welcome to call in and join, current ones can renew their subscription, or night permit.
