10th January 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

10th January, 2017 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Our team of volunteers who look after both The Mount and Offa's Dyke fisheries are looking to kick start our working parties again this year, usually the third Sunday in the month. This Sunday 15th January is the first one at The Mount, Buckley and the chance help your club. Brian Jones has been doing some sterling work removing willows, but now needs some help move some of the heavier stuff out of the water. They start around 9am and generally finish around midday so simply turn up and ask for Derek Cowell or Brian.

Andy Smith has been a member for just over a year and reckons that his joining our Association was money well spent if only for Woodshaw Reservoir alone. Last Saturday he started his session there with a feeder rod set-up that came to nothing so he switched to a margin pole. Using dead red maggot and double on the hook he was soon into fish and ended up with a nice catch of roach and another enjoyable days fishing.

Our dedicated band of Mersey devotees not content with the Sunday Series had a 'knock-up' Saturday to see how the river was fishing. Jimmy Byrne was top weight with 2-5-0 caught on the usual feeder and maggot. However, the next day when it really mattered Roy Everson was the top rod with 2-14-4 made up of eighteen roach and Ant Higham (aka King of the River) was in second place with 1-3-8.

Our Monday Disabled & Over 60's match weights were thankfully a vast improvement on last week's bite lottery when no angler topped a pound. Winner George Barber was pegged just up from Houghs Bridge and using his favourite pole and bread punch netted some quality roach for a weight of 5-6-0. Jimmy Byrne was the runner-up with 4-13-12 and the top three weights came from adjacent pegs.

A number of our security barriers at Sandiway Lakes have been left open lately so be warned lock them up or lose your licence, no second chances. Locking our barriers and gates is an absolute condition of membership.

WAA Headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 8-30pm for new members, subscriptions, night permit renewals, and any queries. Please email catch details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or give me a ring on 01928 716238.
