30th August, 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Mark Pritchard who enjoyed his best session to date from peg 4 on the River Mersey. He fished a small waggler close in and fed with maggot and hemp and was immediately into fish but stopped counting at fifty.  He changed to caster and caught a better stamp of fish with roach touching the pond mark.

Ian Woods enjoyed a session on Ackers Pit with his sons Rowan 8years, Sammy 6, and Alex 5 catching lots of scale perfect roach up to a pound. The method was waggler and loose-feeding maggots and their catch included a bonus mirror carp and a skimmer of 12ounces, the latter we have never stocked and can only surmise that they came through from the Bridgewater Canal supply pipe as fry.

Eric J Smith fished at Cicely Mill on Sunday and considering that everything that could go wrong did go wrong, kicking pots of bait over, getting rigs tangled, and getting caught up on various species of flora it turned into a very special day. He fished from about 12-30pm until it was just about dusk and landed 22 crucians with the best half dozen coming in a the following weights, 2-10-0 (2), 2-12-0, 2-13-0 (2) and 2-1-0. Eric weighed all the fish and 16 including the six mentioned, went over 2lb, the other 6 were between 1-9-0 and 1-15-0. He initially catapulted in half a dozen large pouches of hemp before tackling up and started his session using a method feeder with an 8mm pineapple wafter on the hook. Eric sprayed a couple of pouches of hemp over the feeder after every cast otherwise he didn't get a bite.

Match organiser Ray Boden fished pole and maggot to take another win in this popular river series with 8-11-0 of roach and perch. Our webmaster Martin James was second fishing the same tactics but alternating between maggot and caster for a weight of 7-9-8.

And it's that man Boden to take yet another Mersey win on our Sunday Series Match with 15-10-0 of roach and skimmers. Ray is meticulous in his preparation and usually in the frame or close by in the matches he fishes. He was followed by Neil Davies who weighed in 11-1-0. The top three weights were all into double figures and you needed 8lbs plus to get a section win.

Our Disabled & Over 60's match fished on the River Mersey with sections split between the early pegs and opposite the rowing club. Derek Bibby was the clear winner with a net of roach and perch for 11-6-0 taken on pole and maggot tactics. Ray Boden was in runner-up position with 9-1-0 on the same tactics.
