21st June, 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes
Thanks to members who put fish before themselves whilst some waters were part closed due to spawning. Moore Quarry is fully open now as the tench which were the last to spawn have now finished. Only two casualties there from the rigours of spawning, both carp.
I would remind members booking on for night fishing that whether a phone call or text it is strictly between 9am to 6pm and anything outside those times will not be accepted as a booking. It is simply a matter of fair play to fellow members.
A few nice reports from Little Sandiway last week where one member on a two night session reports catching nine carp from 12lbs to 19lbs 4oz plus three tench from his 5am start to 9pm and spent two nights for the sum total of four tench, the biggest 6lbs 12oz. Another who the week before had a fantastic catch of tench reckons that it is worth the membership fee for this one water alone.
Carl Harrison reports catching three tench around five pounds apiece from Grey Mist Mere and lost five when they threw the hook in the lilies. Another fish, more than likely a carp managed to almost straighten his size 12 Kamasan B911 barbless hook. A number of tench around the 8lbs mark have also been landed by members this past week making the Mist probably one of the best tench fisheries in the North West.
Graham Oakes postponed his first river session of the season on Thursday due to torrential rain but managed to make it to the Dane on Saturday and was rewarded with four chub between three and just over four pounds. Fishing roving style he caught the fish from three different swims on hair rigged double 10mm crab and krill boilies.
Saturday saw our opening match (1st Association Contest) on the Mersey won by organiser Ray Boden who made the most of his end peg draw to fish pole and maggot for a mixed net of chub, roach, and skimmer bream to 12ozs for a total weight of 6-12-0. Runner-up Bob Clough fished a groundbait feeder and caster for 6-6-0 that included a bonus bream of 4lbs.
Veteran angler Phil Cross is back on the match scene with a win on our Monday Disabled & Over 60's event fished on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Farm Road. It was a close match with only ounces between the first three anglers but Phil's mixed catch of 5-13-0 just kept him ahead of joint second anglers Jimmy Byrnes and Geoff Brooks with 5-6-0.
Our Woodshaw Junior Summer League on Monday was won by James Brown with 4-5-0 and over a pound ahead of runner-up Tyler Davies who put 3-2-0 on the scales. This series is open to all junior members.
Our headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for new members, subscription and night permit renewals, and any queries. Your catch reports are always welcome, email me details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or ring me on 01928 716238.
