6th April 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

One of our members has had a left sided stroke and is finding it difficult to reel in. With the handle changed to the right side he is finding it hard to reel in and control the rod at the same time. Anybody out there who has any helpful ideas please drop me an email.

Adrian Cutler reports catching a Mist mirror of 19-6-0 last week on a chod set-up over almost a kilo of bait. There were a number of leaches showing on his pic but they will diminish as the fish start getting more active.

Steven Brookes has now finished his winter sessions on our River Dane stretch and has been pleased with the results. In eight trips he averaged three fish from this tiny river on each visit, mainly chub around 3lbs but a few four pounders, best weighed 4-12-0. He also had grayling to just under 2lbs which also fell for luncheon meat, but the biggest surprise was a brown trout of 1.5lbs that had a taste for cheese. Steven used a light lead and his trusty John Wilson 12ft Avon rod searching likely fish holding areas and moving from swim to swim.

Bites were a rarity on our Disabled & Over 60's match on Monday at Cliffe Lane boats but local ace Jimmy Byrne managed to find a few fish to win with the low weight of 1-13-0. George Barber was the runner-up with 1-5-6. The fish are now tending to spread out leaving their over wintering areas so you really need to draw on fish to have any chance of making the frame.

Our netting team were out again on Sunday on one of our own waters, which is quite a rarity, however our local management team at Woodshaw have for several years been asking for the silver fish stocks to be thinned as numbers had exploded on this small club owned fishery. This exercise when carried out some 10 years ago saw a massive upsurge in growth rates proving the pundits wrong. Anyway the upshot was that on Sunday 250lbs of silver fish were removed and 150lbs released into High Legh Fisheries and 100lbs into Hamptons Pool. Certainly if you are introducing any youngsters to angling High Legh should be on your list to visit. Our management team is looking to soon give Hamptons a makeover so anyone who fancies getting involved please get in touch.

Fish traps have been found at Malpin Pool in Wigan by one of our sharp eyed bailiffs. I would ask all members to immediately report anything suspicious they come across.

Our headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for new members, subscription and night permit renewals, and any queries. Your catch reports are always welcome, email me details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or ring me on 01928 716238.
