25th April 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

25th April, 2016 Warrington Anglers Association Guardian Notes

On Monday morning there was a pronounced chill in the air at Grey Mist Mere as temperatures dropped following an Indian summer weekend, but the tench were still feeding. Andy Humphries landed three between 4-10-0 and 5-4-0 using red maggots and worms on a feeder/helicopter rig. He lost a larger one at the net when it slipped the hook, frustrating, but that's angling.  One run smashed his hook length before he could even get to the rod!  Whilst not exactly frantic action but where would you rather be on a Monday morning?

Last week I mentioned a double figure bream from the 53acre water at our Association owned Sandiway Lakes, well the fish turned out to be a real specimen, a fish of a lifetime that sent the scales needle round to exactly 15lbs. Plus this week news of a number of tench nudging the 10lbs mark. There have been a few carp caught but unfortunately there are no details that I can mention.

Worthington is definitely on my recommend visit list as it is consistently producing some great sport. Ian Hughes ignored accepted groundbait feeder tactics and fished the slider and maggot over 8 large Jaffa's of groundbait full of hemp, caster, and maggot. It wasn't too long before the roach and skimmers were literally crawling up the rod. His best fish was a bream of about 3.5lbs but size wasn't the issue as it was a nice day and good fishing, and as we all know size doesn't always matter.

Increasingly bailiffs are coming across members (and not all new to WAA) who are infringing our rules stating 'they didn't know'. All the rules are clearly printed in your annual membership book so there is really no excuse whatsoever.

Please note that the Disabled & Over 60's match is cancelled on Bank Holiday Monday but resumes the following week (details below).

Our headquarters at 52, Parker Street are open as usual every Friday between 7 & 9pm for new members, subscription and night permit renewals, and any queries. Your catch reports are always welcome, email me details to frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk or ring me on 01928 716238.
